Sony Introduces PlayStation Stars Loyalty Program For Gamers

Campaigns will include PlayStation's "Monthly Check-In" campaign, where you can earn points just for playing any game on your console. Other activities will require you to win tournaments or unlock trophies to earn points -- or even be the first player in your local time zone to make it to platinum for a blockbuster title (which indicates that a player has achieved 100% completion in that game).

Computing what each pixel on the screen should look like is hard, so Nvidia chips use AI to predict how some pixels should look without doing the entire set of computations. The Lovelace chips have extended that technique to generate entire frames of a game using AI.

The long-awaited sequel to Blizzard's hero shooter, Overwatch 2 introduces 5v5 PVP gameplay, a new battle pass system and, eventually, new story missions, though those won't be coming until next year. 

Sony on Thursday introduced its PlayStation Stars loyalty program for PS5 and PS4 gamers. It'll be free to join, poker pkv and players will be able to earn loyalty points by completing a variety of campaigns and activities. Players can choose from a catalog of options to redeem points, including PlayStation Network wallet funds and select PlayStation Store products.

Sure, there was no way Pratt was going to use the exaggerated, stereotypical voice, but so little of him can actually be heard in the teaser it's tough to say how his Mario will sound. He doesn't deliver any of Mario's famed catchphrases -- no "It's-a me, Mario" or "Wahoo!" Maybe more will be revealed when a longer trailer comes along. Regardless, there's a better chance to hear some of Jack Black's Bowser (he's excellent) and a good look at the vibrant animation.

Wuebbling also said the chips will not contain a so-called hash-rate limiter, a technology Nvidia put in its previous generation of chips to limit their use in mining the cryptocurrency Ethereum, because of recent changes in how that currency is tracked.

Digital collectibles are also on their way to the PS5 via the Stars program. Collectibles could be figurines of iconic characters -- think Solid Snake or Ratchet & Clank -- or they could be representations of famous Sony devices throughout history. 

First announced at BlizzCon 2019, Overwatch 2 represents a big shift for the series. The sequel fully commits to a live-service, free-to-play model where the game continually receives new content, in the form of seasonal content with new heroes, new maps and major balance patches each season. This model is an attempt by Blizzard to fulfill the original promise of Overwatch.

Honestly, the much-anticipated Pratt-as-Mario voice was kind of a letdown. There's ... maybe a faint bit of Italian accent in the few lines Pratt speaks? Or is he just using his normal voice? Pratt's Mario mostly just reacts to getting the wind knocked out of him as he heads off on his Mushroom Kingdom adventure.

"It's been a lifelong dream of mine to be Mario," Pratt says in a video clip preceding the trailer, relating how he played Mario games on a machine at his childhood laundromat. Good to know, but the jury is still out on how that dream will become a reality.

The game was hit by two distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, according to Game Director Aaron Keller, exacerbating server stability issues that are common with new game releases. As a result, players were waiting in queues tens of thousands of people long just to get into the game, and once they were in, they were getting kicked out of matches and sometimes out of the server entirely -- stuck back at the end of the queue.
